By the pricking of my thumbs
something wicked this way comes.

And guess what? It's YOU, elegantly wrapped in our lacey black ruffle scarf.
A cascade of dark lace announces your entrance and proclaims that you're no one to be trifled with. Wear it to the theater, the finest restaurant in town, or on that all important third date. After all, if you're going to be a drama queen, shouldn't you look the part?

The Black Ruffled Scarf is hand knit by me in my smoke free, pet friendly studio from imported mesh yarn. As always, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to a no kill animal shelter or Heifer International in honor of the Late, Great Fat Joey.

Irresistable

Need a snuggle bunny? Sweet Winnie needs YOU!
Meet Winnie!
Winnie is a 3-4 month old, 2 pound kitten with multiple talents:

1. A Companion:
Winnie is super affectionate and will gladly nap in your lap. She also enjoys being carried around like a baby, perching on your shoulder like a ...parrot, and giving kisses.

2. An Alarm Clock:
Winnie has a very unique meow which draws attention from all of her adoring fans. She uses her voice when she is hungry or wants some attention.

3. A Dog-Occupier:
Winnie LOVES dogs (at least those who also love her)! She acts like one of the gang when her doggie foster siblings are around, chases them around and enjoys bath time.

4. *Most Importantly* A Fun, Adorable, Young Kitten
Winnie is guaranteed to provide you hours of laughter and affection. She will grow into a great companion cat and family member. Like all young kittens, Winnie will need daily exercise and some training to know that she shouldn't use her claws and teeth to play (nothing a little spray bottle of water can't correct).

Read more about Winnie here:

Winnie was surrendered to the ACCT Philly shelter along with her brother and sister because their owner couldn't care for them any longer. Her brother and sister were lucky enough to be adopted, but because Winnie was the runt she had to be placed in foster care until she was big enough to be spayed. Winnie is still quite small for her age, but is healthy and happy! She likely won't ever be a large cat but will make a great family pet. Winnie currently lives with 2 other adult cats and 3 dogs. She gets along great with everyone! She is a social girl who is currently learning how to play appropriately. Winnie is already spayed, microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations. Winnie is also FeLV & FiV negative. Her adoption fee is just $75! Interested in adopting her? Contact her foster mom by emailing erin.acctpenpals@gmail.com for more information!

Shameless Self Promotion

Well, really now, folks, what is the purpose of a blog if you can't shamelessly promote your own enterprises? So here we go...I know all ten of my readers have been waiting for this: here are the latest additions to my Etsy shop - avaliable in time for Mother's Day. Hooray! All modesty aside, I'm really pleased with the way they've turned out. And really, can you ever have too many scarves? Of COURSE not!

Feminine, girly, sophisticated and luscious, this hand knit beauty is the perfect way to spoil a loved one. The soft ruffles feel positively decadent when you put it on and it can turn an ordinary coat into a "WOW" outfit. Because I believe in decadence, this ruffled scarf is extra long and frilly. I mean, if a little of something is good, why not a lot? This imported Italian yarn is what you would get if you could knit with giggles, the laughter of babies or an old, dear friend. Are you an animal lover? Because, as always, a portion of the proceeds from the ruffled scarf goes to Heifer International, or a no kill animal shelter, in honor of the Late, Great Fat Joey.

All of my items are made in a smoke free, pet friendly studio.

Light Yellow Banana Silk Scarf

The best of fashion and Spring combine in this hand knit, light weight accessory. The Daffodil Scarf is made from 100% banana silk, hand spun in Peru and hand knit by me in exotic Newark Delaware, which make it a truly global treasure.

The Daffodil Scarf makes a thoughtful present for a favorite Aunt, girlfriend or bridesmaid and is light enough to wear in the Spring. (you can always say that you made it yourself - we'll never tell!) All Fat Joey Knitwear scarves are made in my smoke free, pet friendly studio.

Save This Dog!

PRINGLES A15622714 Why hello everyone! I’m so glad I have your attention! I am Pringles (A15622714) your favorite potato chip! Oh, excuse me, I mean dog! I am your favorite dog! I am a sweet sassy 1-2 year old girl currently living at ACCT waiting for my forever family. I was found as a stray by a great lady who runs a kittie rescue. She really wanted to take me home because I was so sweet, but unfortunately I probably shouldn’t live with cats. I am a serious wiggle-butt. I love everyone! When I see someone coming towards me I wiggle wiggle wiggle! I love getting pets! I am a pretty energetic young lady and I need someone ready to be energetic with me! I am really really smart! Like super-smart! I learned to roll over in about 10 minutes. I know sit, down, and touch too. I would be an awesome agility dog because I am really smart and really eager to please! I have done great in all my dog meets here at the shelter. I have kind of a silly play style. I play sort of like a boxer, using my front paws a lot. I would need to live with a dog who either had my same play style or was pretty tolerant of me playing that way. As I said, cats are way too interesting for them to like living with me! Since I’m such a playful girl, I probably shouldn’t live with infants or toddlers, but older kids who don’t mind my playfulness would probably love me! If you are interested in adopting or fostering me, please contact my pen pal at ashearin@vet.upenn.edu. Thanks so much for reading about me! http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6098/6856721670_eec614c188_z.jpg http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6102/7002836497_47519beb60_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7236/6856721776_af350cc013_z.jpg This is just one of the many wonderful dogs in urgent need of adoption, foster care, or rescue at Philadelphia's animal control shelter, ACCT. Urgent Dogs M-Z at the shelter NOW PRINGLES A15622714 Hi I’m Pringles, no, not those tasty potato chips, I’m a dog, I’m a dog, silly. I’m an adult terrier/pit mix who weighs about 47 lbs. I have a shiny black and white coat and a really cute face with semi erect ears and a white patch on my nose. I’m sort of a high energy gal and I love to play and jump around. Now, I know this is silly behavior and I need to stop jumping up, so the nice people here are working with me on that. I know I can do better and get the hang of it. I did pretty good on my evaluations, handling, dog meets and cat meets. I did show a little interest in cats, so if you have any at home, I should be re-tested to make sure that we are okay together. I did well on food test despite the fact that I was pretty hungry being a stray from the streets of Philadelphia. Due to my energy level, I probably shouldn't live with small children and I should meet all of your children under 12 years of age, as well as your resident dogs when you come to meet me. Did I tell you that I love toys, well I do, so this is a great tool to train me with. I’m not spayed yet, but I will be before I leave the shelter. Come out and meet me today, please!!... Here are just a few of the many wonderful dogs in urgent need of adoption, foster care, or rescue at Philadelphia's animal control shelter, ACCT. Pin thin puppy needs a foster home

Hey guys, one of my friends from City Kitties found this emaciated pit bull puppy on the way to work yesterday. She is not quite a year old and terribly, terribly thin. She is very affectionate and joyous and seems to do well with dogs but maybe not so much with cats. They call her Pringles cause she was foraging in an empty chip can when they found her and was so hungry she trash picked all the way to the shelter. Right now she is at ACCT, but desperately needs a foster/forever home. The shelter is over run with dogs, there's no guarantee she'll make it out. This sweet, starving girl deserves so much better than what's she's gotten in her short, unhappy life. She has so much love to give and she's already suffered so much. Please consider fostering/adopting Pringles. I love pit bulls and would do it in a heartbeat but we are a 3 cat household and I'm afraid our finances couldn't support another critter at this time.
Pringles is now at Animal Care & Control (ID# A15622714) City Kitties can pull her from the shelter and the volunteer who found her would contribute to her puppy training classes. Please repost and share, and let's see if we can save this little lovebug

We're going West!

So yesterday Izzy and I, assisted by Maggie, Sammi and Jake, got together a package to send to the Midwest tornado survivors. We were able to finish knitting and send off 3 scarves, 6 baby and toddler hats, a new fleece blanket, hat, sleeper and mittens as well as diapers, baby bottles and sanitary napkins. We hope the clothes bring comfort and warmth and a little bit of hope to the recipients. You are not alone. We wish you and your families deep healing.

The Island of Misnamed Toys

WARNING: DO NOT drink a hot cup of coffee, or anything else when you view this video. It is HIGH-larious, and I needed something light today. Thanks to the brilliant ladies at http://www.rantsfrommommyland.com/

Found this inspiring quote and thought I'd share. I'm also posting a list of places where you can go to find legitimate charities.

Mother Teresa once wrote, "the spirit will emerge through the lives of ordinary people, who hear a call and answer in extraordinary ways."

Looks like Fat Joey Knitwear will be sending their supplies through Matthew 25 Ministries. Here is a link below to their page.

Toddler found after twister dies in hospital

Oh NO! Terrible to wake up this morning and see this article. That poor, poor little thing. Angel was just 14 months old, the same age as my daughter. I keep thinking about those people in the Midwest, losing everything in a tornado and now they say winter storms are coming? Are you kidding me? Their misery just keeps coming.

We at Fat Joey Knitwear would like to donate some of our new, handknit scarves, baby blankets and hats to the victims of this latest disaster - does anyone know where I would go about sending them? My online searches haven't yielded much - most places accept only cash. I'd send it if I had it....but what I do have to offer are new fleece blankets and newborn baby diapers that Izzy never used... does anyone know of a legitimate church group where I could send these? Thanks everyone. We would love to help. Toddler found after twister dies in hospital

Sunday Morning chuckles

A couple of chuckles for your Sunday morning. Just to show you how out of it I am, I originally wrote Saturday morning on the top of this post. What day is it? Who am I? I used to know these things, before I had the kid. Now I'm really, really lucky if I leave the house for work with my teeth brushed AND wearing pants.
But I digress. The first cartoon with the dog made me actually laugh out loud, not the LOL you type on your friend's Facebook page, I mean really snort in surprise and delight. Heh, heh, heh. I believe I found that on George Takie's FB page. We love you George.

Big Mario's provided the squirrel and frog picture. Well played, Big Mario's. Well played.

You don't have to be an actor to appreciate this last one. Hey, bears fall in love too....

I'd love to sat and chat more with you this morning, but someone is grousing over the baby monitor. We musn't keep Her Majesty waiting! Love and luck to all of you today. Kiss your kids, call your mother, hug your cats.

I need a chuckle.

Every so often, I need to laugh so hard that I pee a little. Don't you? Let's face it, it's fun, it's free and it releases endorphins. OK, a good laugh isn't a chocolate martini, but at 8:59 in the morning, it's a little more appropriate. So here are some of my favorite chuckles lovingly cribbed from the internet. Feel free to post your own funnies. Love ya!

Saturday Morning Update

What a lovely Saturday morning this is turning out to be! Dave is doing yardwork, Izzy is napping with her favorite stuffed dog and I am inside blogging, with a pile of french toast and bacon and coffee strong enough to slap you in the mouth. Ah, heaven! (yes, there's bacon and coffee and toast for Dave, too.)
We have exciting news here at Fat Joey Knitwear. Seven of our items sold over the winter at the Big Green Earth store in Philadelphia. www.biggreenearthstore.com. 3 banana silk scarves, 1 wool scarf and 3 baby hats all found new homes - hooray! All right, so I'm not Sam Wal-mart. It's still enormously empowering to make and sell your own handmade crafts- there's nothing like it in the world. And as always, a portion of the proceeds will go to a Philadelphia No Kill Animal Shelter (we like PAWS http://phillypaws.org/ and City Kitties http://citykitties.org/), or Heifer International http://www.heifer.org/ , in honor of the Late, Great, Fat Joey.
But that's not all! We have had two other stores express interest this past week in selling Fat Joey Knitwear items - one in Philadelphia and one in Kennet Square. I'll let you know when and where once the items are available - oooo, this is so exciting!
What projects, personal or professional are you working on? Fat Joey Knitwear is ever so curious.

We love Unca Mike!

We're Back, Baby!

"Sorry we've been away so long!"

Oh my goodness, it's been how long??? Shame on me! This is no way to keep a healthy and thriving blog! Gentle readers, you'll have to forgive me...I plead new Mommyhood. Izzy is now over a year old, walking and talking and terrorizing the cats. Her new words include ball, shoe, juice, car, hair, more, nanna (banana), kitty, Maggie, Jake (our cats' names) Pop-pop, Da-da and of course, Momma. And NO!

It's been a wonderful year but it hasn't been, um, relaxing. I watch Iz during the week, squeezing in writing, housework, basic personal matinence (you know, eating, showering, brushing teeth) crafting for Fat Joey Knitwear, etc. while she sleeps. IF she sleeps.

I also work part time on the weekends in sales and take the occasional gig during the week for diaper money. I confess, blogging hasn't even crossed my mind in ever so long....but hopefully all that can change! Why, there's ever so much to promote! I mean, uh, er...share with you.....

For example....Did you know that Fat Joey Knitwear is expanding by leaps and bounds? Right now we have felted soaps available at the Natural Harvest Food Market in Mullica, New Jersey. You can check them out on Facebook or online at http://www.naturalharvestmarket.com/.

Now I know what you're saying to yourself. You're saying "What the heck is felted soap and why do I want one?" Oh, my friends! Felted soap is delightful. Felted soap, or "soap-in-a-sweater" is soap that's been covered in wool roving and felted, or agitated, until the wool forms a snug case around it. The result is a colorful, luxurious bath item - a wash cloth and soap in one. The wool, which has natural antibacterial properties, gently exfoliates the skin and is particularly good for smoothing rough parts, like elbows, knees and feets! You can use your soap down to the very last sliver - the wool will shrink down with it, until you're left with a cute little pouch. Use it to scrub the bath, or cut it open and hide your treasures. We like to make finger puppets out of them - let your imagination run wild! Questions? Comments? Lavish praise? You can leave them on our
Facebook page (Fat Joey Knitwear) and please feel free to check out our Etsy store. (www.etsy.com/fatjoeyknitwear) A portion from every sale of Fat Joey Knitwear is donated to a no kill animal shelter or Heifer International, in honor of the Late, Great, Fat Joey.

Now! When you go to the Natural Harvest Food Market, please give my best to the owner, Darrol and be sure to try a sample of their nettle cheese - mmm, divine!

felted soaps all ready for market!

Jake helps out with some last minute needle felting....

Izzy reluctantly models her new hand knit baby hat.
